The Embroidery Collection blends the art of Vietnamese hand embroidery with modern designs and details.

It is known for its individually-designed pieces, each piece hand sewn by the finest of Vietnamese hand embroiders. Designs are also customised for corporate clients who want these works of art to carry their signature.

Its owner, Diana Teo, had always been fascinated with the intricacy and quality of Vietnamese hand embroidery techniques and wanted to blend the art and craft of Vietnamese embroidery with modern designs to produce items for the international market.

“Vietnamese hand embroidery goes back at least 700 years,” says Ms Teo. “It is part of the Vietnamese culture and traditionally, young girls were expected to know how to decorate pillowcases, curtains and tablecloths with hand embroidery.

“In today’s modern world, of mass products and commoditisation, it is good to know we can still produce fine works of hand embroidery for our discerning customers and, at the same time, help preserve a disappearing tradition.”

While The Embroidery Collection is headquartered in Singapore, it has factories in Ho Chi Minh City which employ skilled Vietnamese hand embroiders who are adept at techniques such as open-cutwork, French knots, drawn thread-work, wing needlework, petite-point, cross-stitch, beading and smocking.

“Our hand embroiders have been working with us for a long time and they take pride in what they do,” says Ms Teo.

A local manager in Vietnam ensures the work produced is of the highest standard.
